Technical
Director of Tax
Found and lead the affiliated CPA practice, and own the technical standard behind every position the group recommends.
Remote, United StatesFull time
Why this seat exists
This is a founding seat. The group has strategy in OSA and legal in an affiliated law practice; the accounting side is the missing third, and this person builds it rather than inheriting it.
What you would own
- 01Review every recommended position before it reaches a client, against the facts in that client's diagnostic
- 02Model the limitations that decide whether anything is usable: basis, at-risk, material participation, excess business loss, AMT exposure, and state conformity
- 03Build the affiliated CPA practice from the ground up: registration, standards, workpaper discipline, and in time a team
- 04Coordinate with each client's existing advisers where they keep them, so the position designed is the position filed
- 05Own the substantiation standard. Contemporaneous documentation, authority cited at the time, assumptions written down
- 06Pressure-test the tax assumptions in offerings clients bring to us, and say clearly when those assumptions do not hold
- 07Keep the firm current on legislative and regulatory change, and flag what it means for existing clients
What we are looking for
- CPA in good standing and eligible to hold the required ownership interest in a registered CPA practice
- Substantial experience in individual and pass-through taxation
- Real depth on the loss limitation regime and on equity compensation. These are the two areas most of our work touches
- Willingness to be the person who says a position does not work
- Ability to explain a technical conclusion to an intelligent non-specialist without diluting it
Useful, not required
- Experience with credits, cost recovery, or structured investments
- Multi-state and residency experience
- Prior work in a firm where the technical answer was the product rather than a compliance by-product
What we offer
- A founding role with real equity in the practice you build, not a seat in somebody else's
- Ownership of the technical standard from day one
- Work alongside a tax attorney with an LL.M. and a United States Tax Court admission
